Gazetteer of the County of Simcoe, [Ontario] 1872-1873

The cheapest copy on Bookfinder.com for this source is listed at over $50!  A great genealogical reference work here.  Anyone interested in Ontario history, take a look!!  I have a 1985 reprint, 283 pages long, of the "Gazetteer and Directory of the County of Simcoe, including the District of Muskoka and the Townships of Mono and Mulmur for 1872-3."  This was published by the East Georgian Bay Historical Foundation, and is an excellent reference source.  For most townships, the directory lists the name of the resident and either their occupation, or the Concession and Lot on which he or she lived.  There are also hundreds of local ads from the early 1870s reproduced here, just as they first appeared, and histories of all the villages in Simcoe County, Ontario.  The original compiler of the book was W. H. Irwin.

Just to give you an idea of how vast this book is, here are just the villages whose names begin with "M," all of which have their citizens listed:  Mansfield; Maple Valley; Marchmont; Matchedash Township; Medonte Township; Middletown; Midhurst; Midland; Minnesing; Monck Township; Mono; Mono Mills; Mono Township; Morrison Township; Mount St. Louis; Mulmur; Mulmur Township; Muskoka Township. 

There are literally thousands of people in here - a great reproduction of an original 1870s source!  Look at that low bid price!  Good luck bidding.
