I. Daniel Rupp, 1845, 766 pages
This is a very early history of Lancaster and York Counties, PA. The information on Lancaster County covers pages 14 - 531. It discusses the German, English, Swiss and Welsh immigrants who settled in the county from 1709 onward. It also discusses the formation and development of Lancaster County's townships and boroughs prior to the Revolution. Following this is some discussion Lancaster County's involvement in the Revolutionary War, along with a few brief biographies of surviving participants: Philip Meck, John Gantner, George Leonard, Peter Mauerer, Peter Shindle and Jacob Hoover. Other sections deal with educational institutions within the county, the various religious denominations that settled the area, as well as the county's geology and natural history. The section on York County covers pages 531-766 and discusses much the same material as listed above but in relation to York County. This is an excellent resource for historical and genealogical research in these two counties.
