They call it the Palm Beach Diet!
The South Beach Diet was created by cardiologist Dr Arthur Agatston based at Mount Sinai Hospital -in South Florida. The diet was developed for overweight heart patients -- who experienced excellent results, not only in their general health but also losing weight.
The South Beach Diet begins with a somewhat restricted two-week induction phase -- generally producing weight loss of 8 to 13 pounds. There are two subsequent phases that include specific meal plans and recipes. It seems similar to the Atkins diet and the Zone diet, but Dr Agatston stresses it is not a strictly low-carb diet.
Its all about balancing the good carbs against the "bad" carbs. There are three meals a day and snacks -- eating until your hunger is satisfied. Meats, shellfish, chicken, turkey, and fish are all on the menu - along with nuts, cheese, eggs, salads, and vegetables.
Once out of Phase one, the eating becomes less restrictive, and breads, pastas, and potatoes can be re-introduced.
You don't have to be hungry to lose weight. Following the guidelines in this program, you can eat six times a day and never feel hungry.
Recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and desserts are included.
