is a story about a close friendship, that develops between two teenage boys
in 1940s in Brooklyn, and how these two young men, divided by the same thing
that unites them: their faith. Base on the acclaimed
novel by Chaim Potok's best selling novel, this provocative motion picture
stars Robbie Benson as Danny Saunders and Barry Miller as Reuven Maeter--two
teenagers at the time of the Normandy invasion in 1944. Though
both of the devout Jews, there's a subtle difference. Danny
is a Chasidic Jew, brought up to accept faith blindly by his father (Rod
Steiger) -- an Ultra-Orthodox Chief Rabbi, who rejects the 20th century, for
the special joys of centuries-old tradition. Reuven on the other hand, has
been brought up by his father, Maximilian Schell, a secular scholar and
Zionist professor, to question everything around him. As
this story unfolds, each begins to learn what the other way of life can
offer. A haunting tale that will absorb you from start to finish, "THE
CHOSEN" is a sensitive portrayal of two boys turning into men.
